The UK construction purchasing managers' index fell to 43.3 in September, down from 45.0 in August, according to IHS Markit.

The market had expecting the reading to remain flat at 45.0.

The deterioration was the second-strongest since April 2009 and broad-based across all three broad categories of construction work, IHS Markit said.
