Vivo Energy PLC, which sells fuels and lubricants under Shell PLC and Engen brands in 23 African countries, confirmed on Friday that Stan Mittelman assumed his duties as its new chief executive on Thursday.
Mittelman takes over from Christian Chammas, who is stepping down from the role after ten years. His appointment was announced back in November.
Chammas will remain available to support Mittelman over the coming months before retiring.
Mittelman joined Vivo in early 2022, once he had completed his notice period with previous employer TotalEnergies SE and secured a work permit.
He was a senior vice president for Africa marketing & services at Paris-based oil major TotalEnergies for four years.
Shares in Vivo Energy were down 0.2% at 134.40 pence on Friday morning in London, and they were unchanged at R 27.42 in Johannesburg.
