Ireland's annual inflation rate raced to its highest level since 2000 in March, figures on Thursday showed.
According to the Central Statistics Office, Ireland's annual inflation rate accelerated to 6.7% in March, from 5.6% in February.
March's figure was the largest since the consumer price index registered 7.0% in November 2000.
‘Prices have been rising on an annual basis since April 2021, with annual inflation of 5% or more each month since October,’ CSO analyst Colin Cotter commented.
On a monthly basis, consumer price growth quickened to 1.9% in March, from 0.9% in February.
Harmonised inflation, allowed for EU-wide comparison, raced to 6.9% annually in March, from 5.7% in February.
