Ireland annual inflation rate eases to 8.7% in August

- Inflation in Ireland eased in August, but remained at elevated levels, data showed on Thursday.

The consumer price index rose 8.7% in the year to August, easing from July's rise of 9.1%. Still August was the eleventh straight month where the annual inflation rate has been at least 5.0%, the Central Statistics Office highlighted.

Housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuels showed the fastest increase, at 20%, while transport costs were also notably higher at 15%.

On a harmonised basis - calculated for eurozone-wide comparison - prices rose 9.0% annually in August, easing from 9.6% in July, and by 0.2% month-on-month, halving from July's 0.4% rate of growth.
