Burberry Group PLC on Friday said Chief Operating & Financial Officer Julie Brown plans to step down at the close of its current financial year on April 1, 2023.

Brown has been with the London-based luxury fashion retailer since 2016.

Burberry said that she will be leaving the company ‘to take up an opportunity outside of the luxury industry’.

It added that the process to find Brown's successor is now underway.

Gerry Murphy, Chair, commented: ‘On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Julie for her very significant contribution to Burberry's transformation, including her central role in delivering our sustainability ambitions. Julie has built a strong financial base for the next chapter of Burberry's growth under Jonathan Akeroyd's leadership.’

Burberry appointed Gianni Versace SpA's Jonathan Akeroyd as its new chief executive back in October last year.

Shares in Burberry were down 3.6% to 1,655.50 pence each in London on Friday morning.
