German inflation is expected to reach 10% in September, the latest flash estimate from the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis, said on Thursday.

In August, the consumer price index stood at 7.9%. In July, it was 7.5%.

Energy prices, in particular, have increased markedly since the war started in Ukraine and have had a considerable impact on the high inflation rate, Destatis said.

Energy prices were 44% higher in September 2022 than in September 2021.

The end of both the fuel discount period and the €9 ticket availability, presumably, had an impact on the inflation rate in September, the statistics office added.

The final results for September 2022 will be released on October 13.
