French inflation picks up as energy prices rise; Spanish prices cool

The consumer price index increased by 6.2% in France in October compared to the same month last year, while in Spain the figure was 7.3%, official figures showed on Tuesday.

In France, the CPI index - a measure of inflation which measures the price of an average basket of consumer goods and services - increased by 6.2% year-on-year in October. In September, consumer prices increased by 5.6%.

Month-on-month, prices increased by 1.0% in October, after a decrease of 0.6% in September. This was as energy prices rebounded, after three consecutive months of decline.

In Spain, prices increased by 7.3% in October against the previous year. In September the figure was 8.9%.
