Ireland annual inflation rate slows to 7.7% in March

Ireland’s yearly inflation rate slowed last month, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed on Thursday.

The yearly inflation rate ebbed to 7.7% in March, from 8.5% in February.

It was the eighteenth straight month that the inflation rate has topped 5.0%, though the slowest rise in the consumer price index since April 2022.

On a harmonised basis, allowing for EU-wide comparison, the yearly inflation rate eased to 7.0% n March, from 8.1% in February. It is now some way off a recent peak of 9.6% seen in June and July 2022.

On a month basis, consumer price growth slowed. Prices climbed 1.1% in March from February. They had climbed 1.6% in February from January.

On a harmonised basis, prices rose 0.9% monthly in March, slowing from a 1.5% rise in February.
