Ireland retail sales rise on both monthly and yearly basis in March

- Retail sales in Ireland rose in March both on a monthly and annual basis, figures from the Central Statistics office showed on Friday.

Month-on-month, retail sales volumes rose 2.0%, versus 0.7% in February.

The largest monthly volume increases were recorded in other retail sales, up 35%, and department stores, up 5.0%. The biggest monthly volume decreases were in bars, down 16%; clothing, footwear and textiles, down 7.3%; and hardware, paints and glass, down 7.1%.

On an annual basis, sales rose 8.6%, representing a significant acceleration from 3.6% in February.

The largest annual volume growth was in motor trades, other retail sales, and bars, up 31%, 22%, and 9.6%, respectively.
