Consumer price inflation in Ireland picked up in September, the latest figures from Ireland’s Central Statistics Office showed on Thursday.
The consumer price index rose by 6.4% in September, accelerating from a 6.3% rise in August. The CSO noted this was the 24th straight month in which the annual price increase was at least 5.0%.
The divisions with the largest annual increases were Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas & Other Fuels, where prices rose by 17%, and Recreation & Culture, where they rose by 9.4%.
On a monthly basis, CPI rose by 0.1% in September, cooling from a 0.7% increase in August.
On a EU harmonised basis, consumer prices rose by 5.0% annually, picking up from a 4.9% increase in August. Month-on-month, CPI rose by 0.1% in September, cooling from a 0.5% rise the month before.
