Ireland trade surplus declines in September as exports fall

Ireland’s trade surplus declined in September, numbers on Wednesday showed.

According to the Central Statistics Office, exports fell 6.0% to €15.58 billion in September from €16.57 billion in August. Imports rose 6.6%, meanwhile, to €11.37 billion from €10.67 billion.

It means the nation’s trade surplus weakened by 29% on-month to €4.21 billion from €5.90 billion.

Separate numbers from the CSO showed Irish house prices increased 1.4% on-year in September. It follows a 1.1% rise in August. Annual growth slowed markedly from an 11% surge in September 2022, however.

On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.8% in September from August. They had risen 0.5% in August from July.
