SMALL-CAP WINNERS & LOSERS: Gym Group climbs; Gem Diamonds shines

SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Gym Group PLC, up 8.4% at 155.87 pence, 12-month range 97.10p-160.40p. Revenue in the half-year to June 30 grows by 12% to £112.1 million from £99.8 million, the low-cost gym operator says. It swings to a pretax profit of around £200,000 from a loss of £6.1 million. ‘Trading momentum continued in July and August; we now expect to deliver 5-6% like-for-like revenue growth in 2024,’ Gym Group says.

Gem Diamonds Ltd, up 2.0% at 11.73p, 12-month range 7.67p-17.95p. The firm reports the recovery of a ‘remarkable’ 126.21 carat white diamond from its Letseng mine in Lesotho. It is the 12th diamond greater than 100 carats that it has recovered in 2024.

Ricardo PLC, down 2.1% at 507.00p, 12-month range 394.01p-540.00p. The strategic, environmental and engineering consulting company reports an earnings rise, but order intake declines. Revenue in the year to June 30 rises 6.6% to £474.7 million, from £445.2 million. It swings to a pretax profit of £4.3 million from a loss of £8.0 million. However, order intake weakens 4.9% to £496.1 million from £521.5 million.
