Serco Group PLC on Wednesday said it has been awarded a US defence contract, for up to $247 million.

Serco is an government services outsourcing provider, based in Hampshire, England. It focuses on defence, justice & immigration, transport, health & other facilities management and citizen services.

Serco said the contract will support soldier readiness and performance within the US Army’s Holistic Health & Fitness System.

As part of this, Serco will provide training support to 45 US Army brigades at 15 locations across the US.

The contract starts immediately and has an eight-month base period plus four one-year option periods.

The contract follows three other recently announced US defence contract wins, including a $193 million contract rebid to deliver career training and counselling services to veterans.

Chief Executive Officer Mark Irwin said: ‘Serco has a long, distinguished history of supporting the armed forces around the world and this win builds on our existing strength in the defence sector.

‘We have a strong pipeline of further opportunities in the sector, which is now our largest sector globally.’

Serco shares were up 1.4% at 148.90 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
