Ireland consumer price inflation rate picks up to 1.4% in December

Ireland’s annual consumer price inflation rate accelerated last month, numbers from the nation’s Central Statistics Office showed on Thursday.

Year-on-year consumer price inflation picked up 1.4% in December, from 1.0% in November. It was the sharpest pace of annual consumer price growth since August.

The highest annual rise was in restaurants & hotels, where prices climbed 3.7%, followed by recreation & culture, up 3.3%. The sharpest on-year on-year contraction was in clothing & footwear, where prices fell 8.0%. The only other sector to see an annual decrease was furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance, down 1.3%.

On-month, consumer prices increase 0.9%, following a 0.5% slip in November from October.

Harmonised annual inflation, which allows for EU-wide comparison, accelerated to 1.0% in December, from 0.5% in November.
