Irish retail sales continued to rise in December, provisional data from the Central Statistics Office showed on Tuesday.
The estimated volume of retail sales grew 0.3% on a monthly basis in December, and was up 0.8% from the level reported a year prior.
For November, the CSO reported a monthly increase of 0.5% and an annual contraction of 1.0%.
The most significant contributor in December was Motor Trades, where sales grew by an estimated 6.3%, followed by an estimated 2.9% rise in Clothing, Footwear & Textiles.
Annually, the largest increase in December was in Clothing, Footwear & Textiles, estimated to have grown by 8.8%. The sector was followed by Food, Beverages & Tobacco, also known as Specialised Stores, which rose roughly 6.8%.
The steepest annual decline in December was in Fuel, down roughly 7.8%, followed by Bars, down by about 4.6%.
