IN BRIEF: Nanoco signs new Asian customer; files lawsuit against LG

Nanoco Group PLC - Runcorn, England-based developer and manufacturer of cadmium-free quantum dots and other nanomaterials - Signs a joint development agreement with a second Asian chemical customer. Nanoco doesn’t name the customer. It says the one-year programme aims to optimise lead-free nanomaterials for use in electronics applications. If successful, the next stage would involve scale up to industrial production levels during 2027, Nanoco says. The revenue from the new Asian agreement will help Nanoco to exceed current expectation for non-license fee income in financial 2025 and contribute further revenue to financial 2026, it says. Nanoco’s financial year runs to July 31.

‘The consensus of market research is that quantum dot enabled silicon sensors, especially ones which are lead-free, will disrupt the global consumer electronics market,’ says Nanoco Chief Executive Officer Dmitry Shashkov, adding: ‘Discussions are ongoing with other potential new customers around further potential projects.’

On Friday, Nanoco said it filed a patent infringement lawsuit with a court in Texas against South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. Nanoco retains Dallas-based law firm Caldwell, Cassady and Curry for the suit, noting that CCC were part of the legal team involved in Nanoco’s successful litigation against LG compatriot Samsung Electronics Co. Nanoco says its lawsuit against LG doesn’t yet specify the amount of monetary damages that it seeks, saying this is to be established. It won $150 million from Samsung, retaining $90 million of that after litigation costs.
