US consumer price index rises 0.1% in May as expected

The US consumer price index rose by 0.1% in May after rising 0.3% in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The reading was in line with market expectations.

The index for all items less food and energy, also known as core CPI, increased 0.1%, just shy of expectations of a 0.2% rise.
