US building permits rise 0.3% in May as expected

US privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits rose by 0.3% in May to a rate of around 1.29m, according to the Census Bureau.

The reading was broadly in line with the 1.30m expected by the market.

Housing starts rose 0.9% to around 1.27m, above market expectations of 1.24m.
