US personal spending rises 0.1%; below expectations

US personal consumption expenditures rose 0.1% in August to $20.1bn, while personal income rose 0.4% to $73.5bn, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The market had been expecting a higher rate of personal spending of 0.3%.

The 0.4% growth in personal income was in line with market expectations.
