The UK construction purchasing managers' index rose to 44.2 in October, up from 43.3 in September, according to IHS Markit.
The market had been expecting a slightly higher rise to 44.3.
'The latest reading was up from 43.3 during the previous month, but still close to the ten-year low seen in June of 43.1,' IHS Markit said.
'Construction companies noted that client demand remained subdued in response to domestic political uncertainty and the economic backdrop.'
