The UK flash manufacturing purchasing managers' index fell to a two-month low of 48.3 in November, according to IHS Markit.
The market had been expecting a more modest fall to 48.8, from the 49.6 recorded in October.
Services flash PMI, meanwhile, fell to 48.6, against market expectations for a rise to 50.1.
