The US flash manufacturing purchasing managers' index fell to 52.5 in December, down slightly from 52.6 in November, according to IHS Markit.
The market was expecting the reading to stay steady at 52.6.
The services flash PMI rose to 52.2, up from 51.6, a little above expectations of an increase to 52.0.
