US retail sales rise 1.9% in September, beating expectations

US retail sales rose 1.9% in September to $549.3 billion, according to the Census Bureau.

That beat market expectations of a 0.7% increase.

Core retail sales, which exclude motor parts and gasoline stations, climbed 1.5%, compared to market expectations of a 0.4% rise.
